We Want
You!
Are you a
young person age 8 to 100?
Do you
want to learn to build your own airplane?
Are you
curious about how airplanes fly? Do you love aviation?
If so,
you are invited to join us every 4th Saturday at 10:00
a.m. for
fellowship, presentations, learning opportunities, building assistance, “Hangar
Flying”, and a warm welcome from each of our members.
Young Eagle Rallies
Our
Chapter is devoted to encouraging in the youth of our community, an interest in
aviation. We hold Young Eagle Rallies so young people can experience their first
flight in a General Aviation aircraft. These rallies are usually held in April
and October and include:
Ground School is where we provide a Safety
Briefing, an overview of their flight and a Pre-Flight Classroom presentation
covering the basic features of an aircraft and how they
fly.
Pre-Flight Briefing
presented by the
Pilot assigned to them. They will receive specific instructions regarding safely
boarding the aircraft they will fly in, as well as how to use the headset and
seatbelts.
Flight Times lasting approximately 10-15
minutes and include 1 take-off and 1 landing.
An Official Young Eagle Flight
Certificate signed by their pilot. They will
also be registered in the EAA Young Eagle Flight Log Book, along with more than
1.4 million other young people who have participated in the program since it
began in 1992.
EAA Air Academy Scholarship
Our
fundraising efforts throughout the year allow us to sponsor the tuition costs of
at least one young person, age 12-18 years old, for the
EAA Air Academy in
Oshkosh, Wisconsin, during the Airventure Fly-in
held each July. Candidates names are submitted to the membership for
consideration. If more than one candidate is nominated, the members present at
the final submission meeting vote for their choice to receive the Scholarship.
When funding has allowed, we have sponsored more than one
candidate.
The
Air Academy lasts 5-9 days and includes meals
and lodging. Age appropriate classroom and shop projects will provide a
fun-filled week of aviation knowledge and hands-on experience opportunities.
Admission to the Airventure show for 3 days is also included in the tuition for
the 16-18 year old attendees.
Technical Counselors and Flight
Advisors
You will
find offers of guidance and insight for those who wish to build and test fly
their own Experimental Aircraft. Many of our members are pilots, builders,
instructors and restorers who are committed to assisting others and sharing
their wealth of knowledge and experience where needed for aircraft design and
construction.
Pancake Breakfast
One thing
is certain, pilots like to eat. Our Pancake Breakfasts are one of the
fundraisers we hold during the year. Eggs, sausage, coffee or juice are
included. Spring and Fall is our regular event schedule
and we have a great time meeting new people from all around who drive or fly in
for a hot breakfast.
Peach State Aerodrome and the
Candler Field Museum are our benefactors. They host our
meeting facilities and support our goals. We look forward to the opening of the
Museum and its displays recreating the look and feel of
Atlanta’s first major airport. They also
schedule Fly-Ins several times each year, frequently themed around the 1930’s.
Antique cars and aircraft are the Guests of Honor and you are invited to
attend.
The
restaurant located there, Barnstormers Grill, offers weekend visitors and
$100.00 Hamburger flyers a warm satisfying meal (for much less than
$100.00).
Come to our next meeting, Pancake
Breakfast, Young Eagle Rally, or Fly-In and let us welcome you to our
Chapter. There is something for everybody.
See You
Soon!
